Undergraduate Research Conference
Kaledoscope
What is Kaledoscope?
The Kaleidoscope Undergraduate Research Conference is an academic conference for Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Faculty of Arts students to showcase their research and exchange ideas with peers, professors, and the broader university community. Building on the legacy of the Arteries Undergraduate Research Conference, Kaleidoscope celebrates undergraduate research and fosters interdisciplinary dialogue across diverse academic fields.
Kaleidoscope empowers students to explore their interests, present their perspectives, and share their research beyond the classroom. By bringing together students from diverse academic disciplines, the conference encourages intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
Beyond showcasing research, Kaleidoscope celebrates student achievement and creates opportunities for meaningful connections within the university community. With the support of sponsors and community partners, we aim to make the conference a rewarding experience for participants and recognize the dedication and creativity of emerging scholars.
In 2007, the Faculty of Arts at Toronto Metropolitan University was home to nearly 2,000 students in 8 different undergraduate programs. The Arteries Undergraduate Research Conference was founded this year on the Ryerson University Campus. Run out of the Arts and Contemporary Studies Department (ACS), it showcased student research in the Faculty of Arts over 2 days in March of 2008, and “Enhance(d) student life by providing a creative approach to learning that enriche(d) the academic culture at the undergraduate level.”
As the Faculty of Arts grew, Arteries ran successfully for eleven years with dozens of presenters and Keynote speakers.
In 2019, Arteries was unfortunately suspended due to the COVID 19 pandemic and laid dormant for 4 years.
In the spring of 2023, SASSH took on the conference as a part of it’s portfolio and headed the first successful Kaleidoscope Conference in November of 2023. Since then, the conferences had seen great success and we are now looking forward to this year’s conference on November 19th, 2026.
Our Story

Jehangir Saleh (1985-2013) was an exceptional student in the Arts and Contemporary Studies program at Toronto Metropolitan University in 2008. He presented at the first Arteries Research Conference in March of 2008 on Disorder within the world of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
Jehangir dedicated his time and academic work to the idea of ‘opening up’ and understanding chronic illness, using his personal and lived experiences as a framework for creative, theoretical and research exploration. He was curious, creative and fearless in confronting and making meaning from life’s challenges. His positive spirit inspired others around him to do the same.
In 2014, the Saleh Family set up the Jehangir Saleh Fund at TMU to support projects that honour Jehangir’s legacy. The Kaleidoscope organizing team hopes to honour Jehangir’s legacy of academic excellence, curiosity and creativity through our event and our presence on campus.
